Quiet Time
It’s already February of yet another new year and I have no idea where January disappeared to. In the hustle and bustle of running a business and living my life I find it very difficult to make time to just be quiet. My brain is hyperactive and there is a constant chatter of thoughts processing in my head. It’s exhausting! One of the things that really helps me to be still is colour. Strangely it’s a bit of a meditation for me. And a nice excuse to spend more time knitting colour swatches. If it’s a meditation for you too and you’d like to browse our Merino DK colours you can find them all here.
In trying to make time for more peace and quiet this year I have a couple of new routines. One of them is listening to the Ted Radio Hour podcast from NPR (National Public Radio in the US) while I’m out walking my dog on the early morning streets. Earlier this week I listened to an episode on Quiet which I highly recommend. You can find it here …
I have also been trying to pay more attention to the quiet around me, especially near bedtime. A beautiful sound appeared in this night time space late last year. I heard an owl hooting in the street. I live in a built up part of the Cape Town city bowl, so I was surprised. On going outside I could see it perched on my neighbour’s chimney. And I stood outside in the dark for quite a while listening to it and staring up in to the night sky. It’s an incredibly peaceful sound. Last weekend I heard the owl again, after a few months break. I’m so happy that he/she is back in the area and I’ll be having some quiet time every night at lights out, hoping to hear the owl.
Have a listen to a short recording that I uploaded to YouTube here…
