Just one day …
This morning I noticed that one of my very small cactus plants had a flower on it. Its was purely by chance that I even saw it. If it hadn’t been a Thursday when I work from home I’d have missed it. And it got me pondering the implications of focussing all of your energy on just one day. I’ve been trying to think of examples in the human world where everything is focussed on just one day. Artists have exhibitions that typically last some time. Musicians and stage performers will often do a tour, or a show runs for a season. Athletes may work up to one event but this is a build-up, a series of competitions, state championships lead to nationals, qualifiers, semis then finals. And for most of these I’m not sure the survival of the individual or the species is dependent on this flower that shows its beautiful face for just one day.
I find myself spread extremely thin at work right now. The business is growing, which is amazing. And I’m incredibly grateful for the customer support that keeps us going. Without it none of my team would have jobs to come to every day and each of them needs to work to support their families. However this growing enterprise has needs too and it’s challenging me more and more to grow with it and live up to what is required of me to keep leading it. I’m torn between what’s urgent and what’s important. It’s a daily balancing act. I envy my cactus with it’s very clear focus on just one day. And I’m going to try and be more like it.
I’ve had clarity today … just one day is tomorrow. Our November sale for just one day, Friday 29th November 2019. It’s just one day! Let’s hope the survival of the business doesn’t depend on it :)))
